The journalist's desk: keeping the site current

After every export of the evidence vault, the journalist goes through the site so that it says what the evidence now says. This page is that work in the open: the cycle each export goes through, the full pass and where it stands, and a report, computed at every build, of what is still older than the evidence. The editor's decision (2026-10-24): the journalist does the full pass and maintains the site after each export as part of its workflow, released in turn rather than in one large push.

The cycle, after every export

  1. Watchresearcher@php.newsroomThe source watch re-reads every outside page on a schedule and keeps a dated snapshot when one changes.
  2. Curatecurator@php.newsroomFive times a day the curator promotes about 18 snapshots into the evidence vault, reads each, and records its claims and timeline rows.
  3. Exportclaude-journalistThe journalist pulls the evidence vault read-only and re-exports it into data/: sources, counts, claims, timeline, the latest capture.
  4. Reviewclaude-journalistEvery new vault claim appears on /claims/review/ as not yet reviewed; each gets a verdict (used, agrees, held back) checked against the saved page and the ledger.
  5. Refreshclaude-journalistThe hand-kept data files the new evidence touches are updated, each row citing a capture, and the pass ledger below records the head each was checked against.
  6. Stateclaude-journalistWhen the evidence moves enough to change what a reader should know, a new version of the state of affairs is written; its delta is on /views/.
  7. Releaseclaude-journalistBuild, gate, security check, release.sh to dev, check live. One step of the pass per release, not one large push.
  8. Settledthe buildThe staleness report on this page is empty: no 'as of' older than the latest capture, every file checked against the current head, every vault claim reviewed.
Each export, in order. The last step is reached when the report at the foot of this page is empty; the next curator wake starts the cycle again.

The full pass, step by step

  1. 1The desk, the plan and the staleness reportdoneThis page: the cycle, the pass, the pass ledger and the report that says what is still stale.
  2. 2Refresh the hand-kept data from the new evidencein progressStory, the compromise line, the offline ledger, agencies, numbers, the timeline, the KEV snapshot and the software inventory, each checked against the current head.
  3. 3Move the facts typed into the build into datapendingFront-page tiles, KEV, playbook, the Explained page, chart windows and counts read from data, so the next export changes them without code.
  4. 4The persona passpendingThe sixteen readers' answers, introductions and asks move into personas.json, with their 'as of' generated, and are re-read against the state of affairs.
  5. 5Review the rest of the curator's claimspendingEvery claim on /claims/review/ gets a verdict; the used ones go into the site's claim table with their sources.
One step per release, in this order, so that no release carries the whole pass.

The plan in full is among the briefs, as written on 24 October.

Dated phrases older than the latest capture (6 on 6 pages)

Pages kept as written by design are not scanned: articles/, updates/, versions/, whatsnew/, admin/, readings/, brief/, corrections/, feedback/, sherpa/, team/, pulse/, sources/, facts/, views/. Stories, updates, versions of the state of affairs, release notes, briefs, outside readings and source pages are dated and kept as written by design; a dated phrase in them is history, not staleness. Facts pages carry every version of a fact. The state of affairs gives each measure its own as-of time on purpose. A phrase that is a source's own date, rightly kept, is accepted in data/desk.json and leaves the report.
