## Collaborators: the people who use the site as it is built

Status: built on branch conductor/collaborators, for dev@php.newsroom to carry into the next release. Brief by Dinis Cruz (editor), spoken on 22 October 2026; written up by conductor@php.newsroom.

### The ask, in the editor's words (through a transcriber)

"Can you create a page for collaborators? I want to use this as an opportunity to bring a lot of people I know, because it's a great way for them to be exposed to what we do, and also a great way for me to nudge feedback. I need to create a group of users in a WhatsApp group and an email chain that I can give tasks and ask them to do stuff. I need you to be able to give them instructions: let's say it's Friday, we just published this and this feature, can you go and read it, and then give us feedback, and connect the dots. They're going to be our power users. Almost like onboarding a new crowd, where I can just send a link to them; and new people can ping me on LinkedIn or send a message. We should have an append vault there. They receive emails and they'll be part of a WhatsApp group."

And on coordination: for now the team synchronises through this repository and the site, not the coordination vaults: "everything is public anyway."

### The design

1. `/collaborators/`, built from `data/collaborators.json`: what we ask, what you get, how it works, this week's ask first.

2. An **ask** is a dated row: what is new (pages, with why each matters), the readers to read it as (from `data/personas.json`), the steps, the questions. The build writes, for each ask, the message for the WhatsApp group and the message for the email list, with full URLs, ready to paste. The conductor writes one ask per release worth looking at; the editor sends it.

3. Two forms, **join** (name, email, how they know the editor, the reader closest to them, whether to add them to WhatsApp) and **feedback** (which ask, which reader, which page, what worked, what did not, what next), each encrypted in the browser to the collaborators vault's key and posted to its write-only lane, as `/subscribe/` does. No phone number is collected: the editor asks for it himself.

4. A new private vault, `58526ytp`, holds the requests, the feedback and `panel.json` (who asked, who was added). `admin/build/collaborators_drain.py` drains it. Its vault key is sealed to the root.

### What it cannot do

- It cannot send. The email list and the WhatsApp group are the editor's; nothing here mails anyone (CLAUDE.md: no mail without the editor's go).

- Rows are untrusted: anyone who reads the page can post. A person reads a request before anyone is added.

- The LinkedIn address is the conductor's, not the transcript's: the editor confirms it (board).

### Open questions for the editor

- The LinkedIn link, and whether agent@diniscruz.ai is the right contact for people without JavaScript.

- Whether collaborators who agree are thanked by name on the page.

- How often to ask: the page says about two asks a week.
